Description
Zakat al-Fitr (also called Fitrana) is a mandatory charity that Muslims give at the end of Ramadan, before the Eid al‑Fitr prayer. The purpose of this charity is to purify the fasting person from any mistakes made during fasting and to ensure that poor and needy people can also participate in the joy of Eid.
Every Muslim who has sufficient food or wealth for their family must give Zakat al-Fitr on behalf of themselves and their dependents, including children. Traditionally, it is given in the form of staple foods such as wheat, barley, dates, or their monetary equivalent.
This charity must be distributed to those in need before the Eid prayer so they can prepare for the celebration. Zakat al-Fitr promotes compassion, unity, and social responsibility by ensuring that no one is left out of the blessings and happiness of Eid.
